Like blue skies and sunshine? They got ’em.
Central Oregon lies east of the Cascade mountains and literally basks in its rain shadow. The region is a recreation mecca for sun-loving residents and travelers–truly one of the best of the west. The recreational opportunities are seemlingly endless and a bit dizzying: downhill and cross country skiing at Bachelor, rock climbing at Smith Rock, river rafting down the Dechutes, hiking in the Three Sisters Wilderness, horse back riding, car camping, fly fishing, golf and a whole bunch of different water sports. And at the end of the day, you can wash it all down with a tall, cold glass of local microbrew.
It’s no mystery why Bend fast became one of the most favored mountain towns in the west. It’s an outdoor lover’s paradise set in a great town with chic restaurants, stunning scenery, good shopping, and even a pretty decent nightlife.
Do NOT miss the John Day Fossil Beds. They are INCREDIBLE.
